First solution: Download codec pack for Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows 8 for free:

  • To fix item encoded in unsupported format, download the mega version of K-Lite Codec Pack from this link.
    • This App is free and includes many audio and video codecs and tools that will fix many codec issues in video players and video editing apps, in addition, this open-source pack contains the popular Media Player Classic app.
  • Once the file gets downloaded, double click it to start the installation process.
  • Select normal installation option and then click on Next button to continue.
  • Now, back to problematic video and play it to see whether the error fixed or not.
  • If the video failed to play with missing codec 0xc00d5212 error or if you want to use the default video player of windows instead of downloading Classic media player, then you have to try the next solution.

Second solution: Download missing codec (HEVC Video addon) from Microsoft store app for free:

Search for HEVC Video in Microsoft store app and purchase the HEVC Video Extensions. Its price is $0.99, however, if you are unable to pay for it, download its older version for free from this link. The older version of this codec was available in Microsoft Store for free with this long name HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer, but it is not available for free right now.

After downloading the HEVC Microsoft package, double-click the HEVC.Appx file to install the addon or extension into your computer. The version of this package is 1.0.32022.0.

Note:

  • The computer should be connected to an active internet during installation, to allow for online verification of the package’s integrity and safety and to download missing codec 0xc00d5212 from Microsoft’s website.
  • This file will download and install missing codec into windows 11 or windows 10 even if you have not logged in to Microsoft Store or linked the Microsoft account to your computer.

Back to the video and try to play it again. In first time you play the video after installing HEVC Video Extensions, you should be connected to the internet, otherwise, you will get an error message saying that:

“Can’t play
